Promotion Requirements

2017 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony ** Ceremonia de Promoci├│n del 8┬░ Grado 2017

Dear Parent/Guardian of an 8th Grade Student,

All 8th grade students must comply with the district criteria set forth by the TRUSD Board in order to participate in the 8th grade promotion ceremony at the end of the year (TBD).  The Board desires that each middle school with 8th grade students provide age-appropriate promotion exercises to recognize students who have completed the school’s course of study, and who demonstrate proper citizenship and habits of mind like good attendance.


This is a participation criterion only and, per school district policy, all students will be promoted to the 9th grade. 


In order to participate in the 8th grade promotion exercise, students must follow this contract:


  • Have a 2.0 grade point average or higher for the second semester
  • Have no more than one failing grade in classes for the second semester
  • Maintain at least a 90% attendance rate for the school year
  • Have no violations of California Education code 48900 that result in a suspension for the 4th quarter


For those of you who are planning ahead, here are the promotion dress code requirements:


For the Gentlemen:  Dress shirts, appropriate to wear to semi-formal functions or a nice restaurant, and dress slacks/casual slacks; tie is optional. Tuxedos, jeans, shorts, t-shirts and overalls are not acceptable.


For the Ladies:  Dresses, skirts, pants and blouses, appropriate to wear to semi-formal functions or a nice restaurant.
