Welcome to the 2017/18 School Year

The Counseling Department welcomes you and your family to the home of the Rio Tierra Pioneers.  We are pleased you and your child have chosen Rio Tierra and it is a pleasure and privilege to serve you.  The Counseling Department recognizes the unique nature of junior high students, the necessity of meeting their individual needs, and the importance of providing a stable, supportive, and positive learning atmosphere.  We encourage you to contact the counseling department if you have any questions, concerns, or would like to set up a meeting.

Counseling Mission Statement

To implement a comprehensive, developmental school counseling program in which all students are equally prepared to achieve success on the levels of academic, personal/social, and career.  The school counselor will serve as a leader, who, in collaboration with parents/guardians, other educators, and the community, acts as an advocate to promote equity for all students in the areas of achievement, opportunity, and access.  The school counseling program will provide the support necessary to ensure that all students are given the opportunity to develop to their full potential.

Registration Procedures and Documents

Parents/Guardians will need the following items to register a student at Rio Tierra JHS (for questions, please contact the School Administrative Specialist @ TBD):

  1. Birth Certificate
  2. Proof of Residency (example:  recent PG&E or SMUD bill)
  3. Proof of Immunizations (including proof ot TDap for 7th Graders)
  4. Completed Enrollment Form
  5. Completed Emergency Cards
  6. Report Card or Official Grade Report from previous school

* If your child qualifies for Special Education Services, please show a copy of your child's most recent IEP when registering.

Please contact the School Administrative Specialist to keep your child's school record up-to-date.  This is very important for ensuring you receive regular academic updates about your child's progress approximately every 5 weeks.

PSAT DAY - Wednesday, October 11, 2017

On Wednesday, October 11, 2017, all 8th grade students at Rio Tierra Junior High School will be taking the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) 8/9 at no cost to you.  The PSAT 8/9 is a standardized test administered by the College Board.  The PSAT 8/9 is a multiple-choice assessment of Reading, Writing & Language, and Math.  It includes 2 hours and 45 minutes of actual testing time, 15 minutes of breaks, and approximately 30 minutes of administration time.  You may visit http://www.twinriversusd.org/misc/psat2016/ for more information.
