Counseling Mission Statement

To implement a comprehensive, developmental school counseling program in which all students are equally prepared to achieve success on the levels of academic, personal/social, and career.  The school counselor will serve as a leader, who, in collaboration with parents/guardians, other educators, and the community, acts as an advocate to promote equity for all students in the areas of achievement, opportunity, and access.  The school counseling program will provide the support necessary to ensure that all students are given the opportunity to develop to their full potential.


The Counseling Department welcomes you and your family to the home of the Rio Tierra Pioneers.  We are pleased you and your child have chosen Rio Tierra and it is a pleasure and privilege to serve you.  The Counseling Department recognizes the unique nature of junior high students, the necessity of meeting their individual needs, and the importance of providing a stable, supportive, and positive learning atmosphere.  We encourage you to contact the counseling department if you have any questions, concerns, or would like to set up a meeting.

Registration Process

A Message from Carol Seward, School Administrative Specialist:

A parent or guardian needs to be present at the time of registration.  If the student lives with someone who is not a legal guardian, they must provide legal documentation showing formal guardianship from the parent or guardian or complete a Caregiver Authorization Affidavit form.  The parent/guardian is responsible for providing us with the following documents before the enrollment process can begin.


  1. Enrollment Form
  2. Emergency Cards
  3. Immunizations (including proof of TDap for 7th Graders)
  4. Proof of Residency
  5. Birth Certificate
  6. Copy of IEP and/or 504 Plan (if applicable)
