If you need an office suite (word processor, spread sheet, etc.), go to http://www.libreoffice.org/ and download the FREE office suite. It can work in, save in, and convert to Microsoft formats as well as others.
If you need an operating system (like Windows or Mac OS), try the free Linux based system called Ubuntu.
